What is NVO (National External Assessment) in mathematics?
Matura (HVO) after 7th grade is the first and most important exam that Bulgarian students take on their educational path forward. This exam determines which high school they will attend and ultimately what career path they will choose. The pressure to perform well in this exam is enormous, especially for young people who are already going through a difficult and dynamic period in their lives.
The demands are ever greater and no one can cope without additional help. At this critical time, it is essential that students have access to high-quality preparatory courses that can provide them with the knowledge, skills and mindset they need to succeed.
HVO after the 7th grade is a standardized test that assesses students’ knowledge of mathematics, Bulgarian language and literature, and a foreign language of all students in Bulgaria.
The Mathematics exam is in two parts/modules. Its format was changed by the MES in 2023/24 as follows:
In the first part, in 1 hour and 15 minutes, students answer 20 questions with a choice of 4 answers (for a total of 65 points). Here it is necessary to work for time, for an optimal solution, quick but accurate calculations and accurate knowledge of the material of the 6th and 7th grades and the methods for solving it.
In the second part, in 1 hour and 30 minutes, students answer three in-depth questions with several sub-conditions (for a total of 35 points). Here it is necessary to work concentratedly and use the detailed knowledge of the late study material of the 7th grade.
Theoretically, the first module is compulsory, the second is not. But the score of the second exam is needed for placement in the high school class chosen by the student.
For help during the exam, students will only be able to rely on a pen, pencil and eraser, ruler, compass, triangle and the following formulas.
The specificity of the exam, the ‘quick’ and ‘deep’ part often make students with little preparation make unnecessary mistakes and lose their grade. They must achieve at least 16 points out of a possible 100 to pass the exam. The exam is critical in determining which high school a student will attend, and in recent years the required score for the most desirable high schools has exceeded 95/100 points.
We succeed together.
