Dual education enters universities – Zonanews.bg
This fall, the project “Student practices 2” was launched, in which there is a serious module for the introduction of dual education in higher education – the inclusion of practical training in bachelor’s and master’s programs. This was said by the Minister of Education and Science Prof. Galin Tsokov at the forum “Europe succeeds with quality education and responsible business”.
The project will be financed under the “Education” Program and will provide quality professional training for students in real working conditions. It also facilitates the transition from the educational institution to the workplace, which will contribute to a better realization of young people.
“This is one of the most successful European projects in the education system, which directly connects thousands of students with their employers. When the training is focused on practice, then there is a much better formation of professional competences,” noted Minister Tsokov. After the second year, students will have the opportunity to acquire specific skills in a working environment, and at the university they will further develop their basic knowledge, with the goal being to build themselves as specialists while still studying, he explained.
The Bulgarian-Swiss project “Domino 2” for dual education in vocational schools will also be launched this fall. Through it, educational institutions get the opportunity to expand and improve their dual classes. The “Apprenticeships” project, which provides practical training in a real working environment and supports the creation of educational and training companies in professions and specialties with priority importance for the economy, was also successfully implemented.
In this year, the Ministry of Education and Science also initiated the coverage of the costs of social and health insurance for students enrolled through work training. “Businesses are freed from this commitment and thus can provide higher pay for these students,” specified Prof. Tsokov.
During the event, the European Commissioner for Innovation, Scientific Research, Culture, Education and Youth Iliana Ivanova touched on the proposal to introduce a single European diploma to be recognized in all 27 EU member states. The European Commission announced this idea in March of this year, with the goal being to reduce administrative obstacles for universities that create joint education. The European Commissioner recalled that during the current program period, which will last until 2027, 786 million euros have been provided for measures that will improve the quality and accessibility of Bulgarian education and its connection with business.
In the first panel discussion of the forum, in which Minister Tsokov took part, the rector of SU “St. Kliment Ohridski” Prof. Georgi Valchev and Georgi Stoychev from “Open Society” also took part. The forum was attended by rectors, teachers, researchers, business representatives, students, etc.
